AP Quiz Bowl 6 p.m Sunday: Bring your commas & apostrophes

Don’t forget about our annual AP and Grammar Quiz Bowl game show at 6 p.m .Sunday in the Holliday Forum. Bring your AP Stylebook, style study guides and notebook because this is an excellent time to study and to learn what you DON’T know.

Also, the deadline is nearing for you to sign up for both the AP and Grammar exams in the testing center. Be sure to sign up soon, or you’ll be stuck with times you don’t like. Allow for about 1 hour for each exam; however, you can have up to 90 minutes if you need the time.

The tests cover every item on the study guide in two, 100-point, multiple choice quizzes.

It’s MC2010 Twitter Time

We will practice using Twitter to relay news and information. You are going to tweet about our class as though it is a news event. You’ll tweet no fewer than three times. Create a screenshot of your tweet and turn it in during the next class period.

You are scheduled to Tweet at least three days this semester. Here are the guidelines for using Twitter in the classroom. Below is a schedule for your section. You are responsible for noting on your calendar when to tweet. I will not remind you.

Here’s how to capture a screenshot on a Mac.
If you have a PC, here’s how to grab a screenshot.

Getting ready for MC2010: T-minus 3 days & counting

It’s about T-minus three days before school starts again. I know you don’t want to think about life past the holidays, but you need this helpful info:

  • Open a Twitter account ASAP if you don’t have one. We will use Twitter the first day of class.
  • You’ll also need a notebook and a pen because you won’t take notes on your laptop. We do some things the old-fashioned way.
  • For those who have class in the 107 J-Building (T/TH at the crack of dawn), you’ll need a laptop for in-class work. Those in South Hall (M/W) will use the desktops.
  • The syllabus has textbook information and what you need for class. Check out the link to the syllabus page. I’ll have copies for you at the start of class. The textbook and AP Stylebook are mandatory. You can’t share with someone in your section, and you won’t make a B without these.
  • You will absolutely love AP Style and grammar. Not. really. But, you should begin your dating relationship with these two now. Check out the resources by clicking on the AP Style/Grammar Page link.

It’s Red Carpet Fiasco press conference time.

Our PR and poli-comm colleagues will conduct a press conference to give journalists and advertisers the scoop on a fiasco on the red carpet at the New Orleans Blues Music and Film Festival.

Journalists and advertisers should read over this rundown of characters involved in the red carpet incident. PR and poli-comm professionals should also look over the synopsis to help you understand others involved with your client.

Here is a reminder for PR and poli-comm professionals of their assignment: a news release on their client’s involvement. ICYMI: Here’s the press release template we used in a previous lesson.
